Hublot celebrates Summer with the release of the Big Bang Blue, a new chronograph characterized by the colour of the sky and the sea. Blue continues to be a popular color for watches, and the Hublot Big Bang Blue is one of the bluest watches out there.
The watch is a flyback chronograph with a skeletonized dial and all the classic Hublot features such as the H-type spline screws in titanium, and the Unico flyback chronograph movement. It’s a large watch at 45 mm diameter, 16.3 mm thickness, and its water resistance of 10 atm (100 metres) makes it perfect for the beach where it will stand up to water splashes and even light surface swimming.
The skeletonized dial features the usual dial configuration of other Hublot Big Bang watches: running seconds at 9 o’clock and 60-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The hands and applied hour indexes are rhodium-plated and satin-finished and filled with white luminescent material for legibility in low-light conditions. There’s an inconspicuous date window at 3 o’clock and surrounding the dial is a blue flange marked with the minutes.
The Big Bang Blue can be matched to a blue and white natural rubber strap for life at the beach or with a blue alligator strap for the evening. Bezel lug and lateral inserts are crafted from white composite resin. Visible through the skeleton dial, the UNICO Hublot MHUB1242 calibre is a self-winding manufacture movement featuring a flyback chronograph with column wheel. That means some of the going train is visible and so is the column-wheel, and seeing those things in action, especially when you activate the chronograph, is pretty cool. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it guarantees an autonomy of three days or 72 hours.
Its blue color scheme, with blue and white natural rubber strap or blue alligator strap with white rubber lining and blue stitching, recalls Hublot’s collaborations with the brand’s ambassador Lapo Elkann, for whom blue is an important part of products by his lifestyle brand Italia Independent. Lapo was present with Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe at the opening of two new boutiques in Cannes and Saint-Tropez.
The Hublot Big Bang replica Blue is limited to just 100 pieces, priced at $21,500, and is initially available at Hublot’s “summer boutiques.”
